"Fahrenheit 451" and "Equilibrium"
While choosing a
fantastic genre movie oneself is facing a great amount of different movies. The
main problem is to choose a proper one that is qualitative enough. Usually such
films lack ideas and investments and as a result are a wasting of time. But
still, there are great movies and Fahrenheit 451 and Equilibrium are among
them.
Fahrenheit
451 was filmed in 1966 and gives the audience the alternative future situation.
The idea of Fahrenheit 451 is that humanity claims
that it does not need books and firemen are supposed not to prevent fires but
cause them burning books. The very important element of the movie is the
exaggeration of the opinion to books. As it seems to me, by that idea the
author tried to show the growing tendency of rejecting reading at all. If that
tendency develops society may even come very close to the events shown in the
movie. Another thing that was foreseen was future careless and absent way of
living that was impersonated by main character’s wife. Nowadays such way of
behaving is not that rare at all.
Equilibrium
is a nowadays developed copy of Fahrenheit 451. The movie describes future
without emotions and culture. Feeling and emotions are against the law and
every piece of art, whether it is music, paintings or books, is prohibited.
Special professional soldiers are trained to fight “emotional outlaws”. The
movie was filmed in 2002 and so it has more special effects and contains more
ideas. The main character plays his role perfectly and watching his emotions
throughout the whole movie is really interesting.
So both
movies are worth being watched and thought about. They claim the same ideas and
are filmed according to the standards of their time. Both movies are useful for
different audiences and make people think of their lifestyles.
