Comparison-Contrast Essay: Fahrenheit 451 and Equilibrium. - Marta Pasiuk

One can find films “Fahrenheit 451” and “Equilibrium” worth watching as motion pictures created on dystopia topic. These two films are based on the same idea which was first described by Ray Bradbury in his novel “Fahrenheit 451”. At the same time, being similar in idea, these two films differ in their story.

Content of the film “Fahrenheit 451” accurately reflects the content of the same book. It displays the exact plot development of the book but with small changes. On the other hand, “Equilibrium” demonstrates a completely different story with other characters and other events.

These two films also differ in the in the form of the prohibition. In the “Fahrenheit 451” only books are the reason of danger for the government. That is why they are outlaw. But in the “Equilibrium” all kinds of art and unusual household items cannot be hold as they can cause feelings expressions that are the biggest prohibition.

The reasons of mental changes of two main characters are not similar in these films too. In the first one protagonist felt the need to change after the suicide of one his suspects-old lady, who preferred to die than to part from books. In the second one the execution of the partner of the main hero par excellence had an impact.

While based on the same book, the two films differ from each other in such moments as plot, the form of the prohibition, and reasons of changes of main characters. One can choose one of them to watch as good examples of such movement in art as dystopia.
